| Junta constructing new Indo-Myanmar border road |
| 21 December 2009: The Burmese military junta is constructing a new Indo-Myanmar border road for developing Chin state, in western Burma. A stretch of 12 feet from Thantlang town to western Thau village has already been laid. It is being widened and will continue till Saisi Chuak River, on the Indo-Myanmar border area. It will be connected to a road from Mizoram state. It is learnt Mr. Chit Ko Ko, Chairman of Thantlang Township Peace and Development Council (TPDC) went to the Indo-Myanmar border area in the last week of November and met local people. “The road will be God’s blessing for Chin people. So we all have to work together and try to avoid arguments on the boundary issue as we had faced with KhaiKam College (now Kaley College),” a trader said. The Chairman of Chin State Peace and Development Council, Major General Hung Ngai has officially announced that the road will be called the Indo-Myanmar border trade road. The length of the road will be about 68 miles and it will connect with a road from Sangau, Lawntlai district Mizoram state. “The construction is being done but it has to be widened. It will be a great boon for the Chin people and Miozram state,” he added. The project was started by local people after, which they contacted the concerned authorities and now it is being built by the regime. “The authorities are fulfilling the demand of the people,” said another trader in Thantlang town. The road has to touch five junction roads in Sangau village, Lawngtlai district to Mizoram state. Essential commodities and electronic goods can be traded more easily between India and Burma soon. - Khonumthung News |
