A memorial service for Salai Tin Muang Oo, who was hanged by the Burmese military dictatorship, led by U Ne Win in Insein prison with the  last words “I will never kneel down to your military boots!” was observed in Delhi, the capital of India by the Chin Student’s Union (CSU) today.

The memorial will be conducted in Burmese Christian Association (BCA)’s hall, which is located in Budella, Vikaspuri in western Delhi from 11 am local standard time.

“The bravery and the need for freedom from the dictatorship of the Burmese Junta of Salai Tin Maung Oo should be recognized by Chin students as well as Chin people. That is why, the anniversary of Salai Tin Maung Oo memorial is being observed by the CSU in Delhi” said Salai Sang Hnin Lian, a leader of CSU.

The death of Salai Tin Maung Oo memorial was organized by CSU to commemorate the popular Burmese student’s leader, who was secretly hanged to death by the military junta on 26 June 1976.

He led the U Thant uprising on 5 December, 1974 and Burmese workers’ strike on 6 June, 1975. He was arrested on 22 March by the regime led by U Ne Win when he was organizing the centenary celebrations of the birthday of the famous national writer and winner of the Stalin Peace Price Thakhin Ko Daw Hmaing on 23 March 1976 and hanged to death on 26 June 1976 by the junta.
