The second phase of the Union level peace talks between the Chin National Front (CNF) and the central government is to be held in Rangoon, the former capital of Burma soon.
Pu Zing Cung, Secretary General will lead CNF team. Pu Thomas Thangnou, member of the Supreme Council and a retired CNF’s President is the second leader of the team.
“We will discuss Burma’s transition and political issues in the second round of peace talks along with a new agenda,” said a member of CNF’s team.
CNF and central government delegations held the first phase of peace talks at Pyidaungsu hall in Hakha, the capital of Chin state. The two sides had agreed on 15 points for the peace process, but some issues, it was decided would be discussed continually.
Both sides army issues of CNF and Burma’s federal system were agreed upon in Panglong, including equality rights among ethnic nationalities, Human Rights as internationally signed by the Burmese government, Chin National Day and Chin State Day issue will be discussed.
The CNF has been operating its liaison offices in Matupi, the second capital Chin state, and in Than Tlang and Teddim Town. The Chin National Army (CNA) camps are also being set up in the state while trading is on along the No.2, Indo-Burma border road following an agreement between the two sides.
The 52-member peace committee was set up by the Thein Sein government to usher in peace in Burma. The Chin National Front also formed a peace committee recently with 23 members from among CNF leaders.
