    CNF clarification on talk’s agreement in Rangoon

    A clarification meeting over the agreement between the Chin National Front (CNF) and the delegation of the union of Burma was conducted with local Chin people, including religious leaders and Chin political party representatives in Rangoon.

    The meeting was held in Myanmar Institute Theological Hall of Rangoon, the former capital of Burma on 11 December between 2 pm to 4 pm local standard time.

    Pu Zing Cung, Secretary General of CNF and leader of the peace talk delegation of CNF, Pu Salai Kipp Kho Lian, Supreme council member of CNF and Pu Thomas Thangnou, supreme council member and former President of CNF clarified 27 points of agreement with the government at the meeting.

    The peace talks were carried out in order to involve Chin people, in the process along with the union government of Burma and political parties. The talk was held over three points of the CNF and six points of UNFC policies” said Pu Zing Cung.

    Pu Dai thung, Secretary of the Chin Progressive Party welcomed the agreement on the Chin National Day celebrations and Chin state day separately and the proposal of celebrating Khodo festival which is held annually.

    Besides, CNF’s peace talks delegation met   U Ko Ko Kyi, U Htay Kywe and Ko Jimmy from 1988 Generation student group in Rangoon the same day.

    “I warmly welcome the plan of the trip to Chin state by 88 generation students. We also agreed for equal rights and the union issue which we had discussed with them. The discussion has been undertaken on the basis of the Burma’s political issue” said Pu Paul Sitha, Secretary General-I, of CNF.

    The CNF’s peace talk delegation also met leaders of the United Nationalities League for Democracy, a social committee and some members of foreign embassies in Rangoon yesterday.

    The second round of Union-level peace talks held by the CNF and peacemaking committee of the union of Burma in Rangoon on 7 to 9 December concluded with 27 points including registration and publication of community-based media in Chin State arrived at from proposals by the CNF  for self-determination, democracy and federalism in Burma since 1988.
