Influenza is spreading fast in Kalemyo, Sagaing division with the onset of monsoon. Patients are occupying all the beds at the civil hospital.

“There are 20 patients visiting the hospital every day and most are children,” said a nurse at the civil hospital.

An insufficient quantity of medicine has allowed the disease to spread faster. Children affected are mostly under 10 years of age. So far six children have died of the disease.

“Infection is spreading faster than last year and most of the infected children are from remote areas,” she added.

Although influenza is common in Kalemyo, Sagaing divison and Chin state during the rainy season; the concerned authorities have not taken any preventive action to stop the spread of the disease.
