    H1N1 Virus infects 10 patients in Chin state

    Chin state government said that 13 people were confirmed to have contracted H1N1 influenza in Matupi town, southern Chin state on 23 July by laboratory test result from Yangon.

    “There were some sick persons and having severe respiratory problems in Matupi from last 3 or 4 days. Then, we had sent their phlegm to Yangon National Laboratory center. After that we got the confirmation of H1N1 virus infected result on 23 July. All patients are 10,” said Isac Khin, Minister of Chin state.

    A six-year-old boy, Maung Tan Naing was died after 5 days in Matupi hospital. Although the condition of  the rest 10 patient are better than before, local have to avoid grouping and puting mask in the town, urged by Chin state government.

    Currently, Dr. Thang Maun Khai, head of Chin state disease protection and Dr. Yut Mong Myint, child specialist in Mindat district hospital are leading the taking care of the 10 infected persons in Matupi.

    Influenza normally spreads in Myanmar during the annual monsoon season from May to October, but an outbreak of swine flu, formally known as H1N1, has not been reported in the country since 2009.
