An  MP cautioned journalists from writing biased news, encouraging them to report objective articles based on the truth during a recent media conference in Hakhar town, in Chin State.

Mang Hin Derl,  Agriculture, Livestock and Forest minister for Chin State, said: “I’d like to request for journalists to report truthful, reliable and balanced news. Journalists need to report news in line with journalism ethics.”

The Myanmar Media Council organized the Four-pillars discussion” Judiciary, Executive, Legislative and Media in the Hakhar city hall in Hakhar town.

Salai Hung Tun Gei, the editor of Chin World Media, said Chin media outlets serve an important role raising public awareness about government policies. Sometimes this reporting is positive and sometimes their policies need to be criticized.

“There are many things they (the govt) don’t understand about how the media works. It’s impossible to report what the government wants us to write (all the time). They need to know what is media ethics. I want them to understand that we are reporting news according to journalistic ethics.”

Chin State Chief Justice U Win Myint Kyaw; U Myint Thein Tun, a judge; and MP U Van Thawng joined Ranin, from the Myanmar Media Council; members of Chin Media Network and other freelance journalists for discussions on the challenges and concerns faced by government and journalists during news gathering.
