Three New COVID-19 Cases in Paletwa

Three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Paletwa Township, southern Chin State this weekend, bringing the area’s total number of patients to eight.

Dr. Soe Thet Win, of the township’s health department, told Khonumthung News that the three newest patients had returned from travel to Kyauktaw Township in Rakhine State and were tested on November 29 after three days in quarantine.

It was found that they had contact with another COVID-19 patient on November 26.

“Four previously confirmed patients have already been discharged from hospital [on Sunday]. Therefore, only four confirmed cases are receiving medical treatment in the hospital,” he said, adding that these individuals’ health was “fine.”

Dr. Soe Thet Win said that more people are entering quarantine, returning from Kyauktaw and Sittwe in Rakhine State, and from Yangon Region. There are currently 37 people in quarantine, and providing them all with food remains a challenge, the doctor added.

Khonumthung News previously reported that there is a shortage of personal protective equipment in Paletwa, including medical masks and hand sanitizer. This has been of particular concern to civil society and local aid groups, due to the large population of internally displaced persons in the town due to fighting between the Burma Army and the Arakan Army.
