Two hospital staff and two people in quarantine tested positive in Paletwa on August 5, bringing the total active infections in the southern Chin State town to 97.

According to Dr. Khine Win from Paletwa Public Hospital, during the third wave, 277 transmissions have been detected. Of these, 210 have recovered, while two people died from the disease. The doctor said that in Myeikwa there are 28 cases and 3 in Sami.

Health officials detected 25 cases in Mindat town, among these 10 have recovered.

According to Kanpetlet Township Health Department, 54 tested positive, while 10 have recovered and one person died from the disease.

In Matupi, there were 29 with COVID-19, of which 19 have fully recovered while the rest are receiving care at the hospital in town.

There is concern the pathogen could spread to many internally displaced person camps in southern Chin State where thousands of villagers fled fighting before and after Burma’s military coup.
