Chin Churches abroad will hand over 500 lakhs Kyat for around 30,000 Kachin Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) created in the conflict between the new Burmese government and the Kachin Independence Army after the ceasefire agreement was broken.
Mr. Van Lian Thang said on 17 November through Laiforum that Chin Churches from Norway led by Mr Thawng Kam and Mrs. Dar Nawn Tial transferred 1,195,6500 Kyats to the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) based in Rangoon, former capital of Burma.
Besides, 74,14,000 Kyats was transferred to the Kachins by Chins from Mizoram, northeast India Another Kyat 5,22,000 and around 55 lakhs Kyat came from Denmark’s Chin community and Zomi Baptist Convention, Chin Association for Christian Communication, Hakha old town Block Christian Church.
“This donation is not to fuel a political issue, we specially focus on assisting Kachin IDPs,” said a leader of Lairam Immanuel Kristian Baptist Kohran from Aizawl, Mizoram.
An amount of 16,507 Australia dollars (12, 54, 5320 Kyats) was transferred to Kachin Association of Australia (KAA) by 12 Churches of Chins based in Australia for the Kachin IDPs. KAA transferred it to responsible Kachin persons in Burma.
The total amount of donations is around 370 lakhs Kyat now. Approximately the total amount will be 500 lakhs Kyat after committed donations from United States of America, Sweden, the Czech Republic, New Zealand and Malaysia Chin communities.
The donation began coming in from the Chin community and Churches abroad in the last two months for Kachin IDPs in Burma. Khonumthung news
