Chin resistance forces ambushed another regime vehicle convoy transporting 200 soldiers from Kalay town to the southern township of the same name in Sagaing Region.

The Burma Army (BA) reportedly suffered many casualties in the fierce fighting, which lasted over five hours.

“Our troops started attacking a BA military column between Kyun Chaung and Thayar Kon at 6:30am. Later, we ambushed them at the entrance of Thayar Kon,” an officer of the Kalay People’s Defence Force (PDF) said, explaining that the regime sent 15 bodies back to Kalay town, assuming as many as 20 BA were killed.

PDF battalions 1,2,5,6 and a local PDF chapter fought together with the Chin National Defence Force, the Chinland Defence Force for Kalay-Kabaw-Gangaw and the Revolutionary Kalay Defence Force against the junta soldiers on 2 August.

The officer said that when the army finally entered Thayar Kon at 2pm, they killed one male villager and abducted 10 others.

“They abducted disabled people and children. The villagers were tied up with ropes and forced to walk in front of the soldiers. We cannot say for sure how many hostages the army took.”

Expecting for fighting to continue in the area, the PDF has warned people not to travel between Kalay and Gangaw at this time.
