Regime Selling Discounted Food In Chin State

The military regime has begun selling staple foods at discounted prices in several townships in Chin State after inflation caused prices to rise dramatically. However, some locals said that the government’s move is nothing more than propaganda to make it appear that it cares about the people, which is a lie.

Since mid-September, the local government has been selling rice, cooking oil, yellow beans, meat, eggs and vegetables at a twenty percent discount at Kam Houk Hall in Sacorll Lam Ward in Tedim town.

“They want to show that they care about our people, but this is just propaganda,” a local from Tedim told Khonumthung News on condition of anonymity. “Everything is expensive and many people have financial difficulties, so they’ll buy these things that are sold cheaply.”

The military regime has also been selling food at reduced prices in the towns of Hakha and Falam since the beginning of the month.

Following last year’s coup d’état, Chins across the state have taken up arms to fight the dictatorship. The Burma Army (BA) has launched offensives against the resistance, causing widespread displacement of the civilian population.
