The Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) stopped a regime column in Falam Township in its tracks during an ambush in northern Chin State on Tuesday, 14 March.
“One vehicle is missing and two were totally damaged by the mine attack, but we still do not know how many soldiers we have killed…They can not continue to travel on the road,” said CNDF brigade commander Salai Lian No.
He said they planted the landmine field between Ver Loung village and Pine Tree camp.
The 30 vehicles that had left Kalay about 10 days ago to bring troops, equipment and food to the towns of Falam and Hakha was ambushed 10 times by multiple armed groups on 11 March, killing at least 6 soldiers, according to the Siyin Civil Defence Militia.
The resistance groups continued to ambush the convoy, which includes two armoured vehicles, until Tuesday attack.
Salai Lian No said they have changed their tactics: They used to cover the same distance in four days, but it’s been 7 days and they have not reached Falam and can not pass Pine Tree Camp.
“Fighting in the region will continue to escalate.”
On their way, the regime soldiers hijacked several vehicles, finally released the civilian drivers and keeping the vehicles.
The army also burnt down two houses and the school in New Suanpi on 12 March and stole things from Ver Loung, locals report.
The villages have fled into the jungle.
