On the morning of 10 April, the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF) captured a Burma army military camp north of Falam town in Chin State.

There were 14 BA soldiers killed during clash, and the CNDF captured 11 Burma army soldiers alive.

The CNDF launched a surprise attack on the Var military camp around 5 a.m. After an hour-long fire fight, the CNDF troops moved-in to capture the Var military camp from the Burma army soldiers, according to Salai Cung Ngai, spokesperson for the Chin National Organization/Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF).

“Our troops started to shoot at the Var military camp around 5 a.m. After exchanging gunfire for over an hour, our troops captured the Var military camp. The Burma army suffered many causalities during the clash. 14 were killed, and our troops captured 11 Burma army soldiers alive. We also seized some weapons from the camp. A CNDF soldier died from a landmine explosion,” Salai Cung Ngai told Khonumthung News.

There are typically around 30 Burma army soldiers based at the Var military camp, which is located on the bank of the Manipur River near the Kalay – Falam vehicle road.

Burma army soldiers based at the Var camp used to intimidate and extort money from travelers passing through the military checkpoint.

“Burma army soldiers from Var military camp intimidated travelers in the area. They extorted money from local people and travelers. This military camp is a big barrier for travelers. This is why we attacked the Var military camp,” Salai Cung Ngai told Khonumthung news.

The village headman of Var village, named U Hram Hu, was killed during the clash. All other local villagers fled the fighting and have taken shelter in a safer place.
