The exiled National Unity Government (NUG) has awarded 400 million kyat (about $200k) to Chin resistance groups for destroying two Burma army tanks during fighting in Chin State.

NUG reported that they gave the Chin National Front/Chin National Army and the Chinland Defence Forces (CDFs) the money at its 22nd meeting after a special committee verified the tanks were destroyed.

Mahn Win Khaing Than, the NUG prime minister, told Khonumthung News, “When we heard this news, we were very happy because it gives strength to our revolution. The combined forces of the Chin resistance groups have done a successful thing and are committed to fight against the junta.” He said they’re proud of them and “all ethnic Chin”.

The armed groups destroyed the tanks during an attack on a junta column near Chun Cung village in Hakha Township on 13 April 2023. Many Burma army soldiers were reportedly killed during the battle.

Mahn Win Khaing Than, Duwa Lashi La, NUG president, and other ministers, as well as CNF/CNA and CDF leaders attended the meeting on 4 July.
