Fighting has continued between Chin resistance groups and several of the regime’s vehicle convoys in the township of Kanpetlet, located in southern Chin State, where the Military Council has been entering the area on two fronts.
At least seven junta troops perished from a convoy of 300 soldiers transporting food to the Military Council’s camp in the town of Kyin Dwe.
The soldiers came under attack by the Chinland Defence Force (CDF) near the village of Lai Dok on the morning of 24 July.
Three fighters from Kanpetlet CDF and one from Minbu District Battalion 6 of the People’s Defence Force were also wounded.
“Some Burma army soldiers were killed, and many others were wounded during the intense battle, and we also suffered some casualties,” a CDF officer from Kanpetlet said.
A Chin fighter was killed after the resistance clashed with another military convoy of over 100 soldiers near the airport in Kanpetlet town on the same morning.
The Kanpetlet CDF reported killing five enemy soldiers and wounding many others during fighting near Katin Chaung on 23 July. Although none of the Chin fighters were hurt, a 50-year-old man was killed after stepping on a hidden landmine.
The day before, CDF soldiers from Kanpetlet and Mindat, and also TYF, attacked a regime camp on the Yan Aung Yadana Pagoda Hill and a Buddhist monastery in Ward 2 in Kanpetlet town, killing at least two enemy soldiers and wounding two.
On 21 July, the groups clashed with the Burma army between Mahser Twi and Maw Chaung, with the regime soldiers suffering some casualties during the clash but no one from the resistance.
To continue fighting the two convoys, the Kanpetlet CDF said that they needed more weapons, ammunition, and food for the soldiers.
Nearly 3,000 civilians displaced by clashes remain in the border areas between Chin State and Magwe Region, with two-thirds hiding in Kanpetlet Township. They lack basic food and medicine and need tarpaulins to protect them from the elements during the wet season.
