    One Civilian Killed and Three Wounded During Clash in Tonzang Town

    Fighting in Tonzang town in northern Chin state on the morning of 2 August left one civilian dead and three others wounded, according to local reports.

    An unknown number of combatants were also killed and wounded.

    On 2 August around 4 a.m., a combined force of Chin resistance groups engaged in a gun fight with Burma army soldiers in Tonzang town. Artillery shells were fired during the clash.

    After the clash broke out, a couple who lives near the police station tried to flee on a motorbike. Soldiers from the police station shot at them as they were driving on the street. U Mang Shang Cing, aged 27, was killed on the spot. His wife was shot in her stomach, and is now receiving medical treatment in the hospital. 

    “They thought the clash was over, so they tried to flee the area with their motorbike. Soldiers at shot them from the police station when the couple was riding their motorbike on the street. The husband was killed instantly and the wife suffered a gunshot in her stomach. She is now in critical condition. She is at the hospital receiving medical treatment,” a local man close to the victim’s family told Khonumthung news. 

    Elsewhere in Tonzang town, an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old were wounded by shrapnel from exploding artillery shells fired during the clash. 

    There were also casualties among the combatants during the 2 August clash in Tonzang town. Comrade Lalramchuana of the Chinland Defense Force – Hualngoram (CDF – Hualngoram) was killed, and three other CDF soldiers were wounded.

    An unknown number of Burma army soldiers were killed and wounded during the clash. 

    Khonumtung News was not able to independently verify the exact number of civilian and combatant causalities resulting from the 2 August clash in Tonzang Township.
