A regime airstrike killed an elderly woman in a village in Mindat Township this Monday.

A jet fighter dropped four bombs on two passes on Vumthu at about 2:45 pm.

The 70-year-old woman was killed instantly when shrapnel from one of the explosions struck her in the head. The plane also attacked the village in southern Chin State with machine gun fire.

“There was no fighting in the area, yet they intentionally bombed the village. I was lucky not to be killed in the airstrike,” explained a local man, who said he was knocked to the ground by the first explosion. “The blast caused motorcycles, plants, and people to fall on the ground. We ran to hide in a bunker.”

He said they haven’t had the chance to evaluate the damages from the attack but some homes were destroyed in Vumthu.

In the evening, the regime’s Infantry Battalion 274 shelled the village and the general area four times with 120 mm mortar.
