Matupi Chinland Defense Force’s (CDF) Brigade 1 has announced its affiliation with the Chin Brotherhoods Alliance.
“Our policies align with those of the Chin Brotherhoods Alliance, and thus, we are committed to collaborating and working in tandem with them,” stated a communications officer from the brigade.
In a recent statement released on its third anniversary, Matupi CDF’s Brigade-1 expressed its dedication to the armed resistance against the Military Council, emphasizing the need to work for the establishment of a federal union and the attainment of equality for ethnic groups in Chin State and Burma.
“We will intensify our military efforts through collaboration with the Chin Brotherhoods Alliance. Our operations against the regime are already underway, and we will persevere until its downfall,” the officer informed Khonumthung News.
Having successfully engaged the regime through ambushes and camp assaults, the Chin resistance has gained control over all of Mutupi Township except for Matupi town, acquiring numerous weapons from the Military Council and witnessed the surrender of some Burma army personnel.
Differences in political stances between the Chinland Council and Interim Chin National Consultative Council (INCC) have led to divisions within various Chin resistance groups.
In a conference attended by military leaders and civilian representatives at the end of February, the Matupi CDF split into two brigades.
Brigade-1 of Matupi CDF was formed with soldiers from battalions 1 and 5, while Battalions 2, 3, and 4 constituted Matupi CDF Brigade 2. The former has pledged support to the Chin Brotherhoods Alliance and ICNCC, while the latter is aligned with the Chinland Council and Chinland Government.
While some members of the People’s Administration for Matupi Township are considering joining the Chinland Council and Chinland Government, others are currently hesitant to do so.
Following the coup in 2021, residents of Matupi Township established the Matupi Security Group, which later transformed into the Matupi Revolution Force, and subsequently evolved into the Matupi CDF.
The Chin Brotherhoods Alliance comprises the Zomi Federal Union, Zoland People’s Defense Force, Chin National Organization/Chin National Defense Force, Chin National Council (Mindat)/Mindat CDF, Maraland Territorial Council/Maraland Defense Force, Kanpetlet CDF, and Matupi CDF Brigade 1.
