In the span of two months, the regime has reportedly killed 80 civilians, including 65 women, in Kale Township, Sagaing Region.
According to the General Strike Committee for Kalay town, the civilians were either executed at gunpoint or perished due to daily airstrikes and artillery shelling launched by the Military Council.
A member stated that artillery shelling alone has claimed the lives of 15 individuals in the town and 65 in the remainder of the township from February up until April 10.
However, he emphasized that this list was not complete and the actual numbers are likely even higher. Numerous homes and other properties, including religious buildings, have been destroyed.
In recent days, the Burma army has reportedly deployed drones to bomb targets in the township, resulting in additional civilian casualties.
This violence persists amidst ongoing clashes in the town between the Military Council and Kalay People’s Defense Force, who have gained control over much of Kalay District.
Tensions have escalated after the group’s initiated offensives in February.
