The Chin resistance now commands eighty percent of Mindat Township following relentless clashes with the military regime in southern Chin State, tallying over 200 clashes since its inception to fight the dictatorship in Burma just over three years ago.
“The Military Council has mercilessly targeted its own people nationwide, including in Mindat Township,” stated Zalat Thwe, spokesperson for the Mindat Chinland Defence Force.
He emphasized they must fight the military dictatorship while fostering unity among the Chin ethnic groups during the group’s third anniversary on April 24.
Also, the CDF commander-in-chief for Mindat has reiterated the group’s commitment to forming strong alliances with other anti-regime forces and safeguarding civilians.
The CDF reported over a hundred civilians abducted by the regime on allegations of ties to revolutionary forces. Regime airstrikes have claimed 56 lives, including children, and destroyed 8 churches, 4 Buddhist monasteries, and 88 homes in the township. Additionally, shelling has killed 20 people and wounded many more, causing extensive damage to homes, churches, schools, and infrastructure.
Burma army shelling has inflicted further devastation, killing over 20 civilians and injuring many others while damaging village clinics, churches, schools, and more than 200 civilian residences in Mindat Township.
Since last year, the CDF has been on the offensive, seizing control of Mkui Imnu town from the enemy and capturing Htebwi camp in Matupi Township, as well as Yay Leh and Sel Paw camps in Magwe Region.
According to Zalat Thwe, hundreds of enemy soldiers have been slain since the coup. However, there’s also been casualties on their side, with 65 CDF soldiers, including brigade commander Salai Thang Tik Mang, killed in clashes across Chin State, and 200 more injured.
