CDF-Kanpetlet closes roads in Daa Yindu area near Magway-Chin border

Roads in the Daa Yindu area of Kanpetlet Township, southern Chin State, near the border with Magway Region, will be closed for a week starting August 4 due to urgent defense and security needs, according to an August 4 announcement by the Khonum Battalion (Battalion 5) of the Chinland Defence Force – Kanpetlet (CDF-Kanpetlet).

Following the junta’s July 31 announcement of a rebranded governing body, retaining the same leadership, it declared states of emergency and imposed martial law in more than 60 resistance-held townships nationwide, including Kanpetlet. In response, CDF-Kanpetlet temporarily closed roads in the Daa Yindu area.

“The announcement said that roads in the Daa Yindu area, which is under the Khonum Battalion’s control, will be closed for a few days. Since Kanpetlet is one of the 63 townships the junta has placed under states of emergency, the battalion decided to temporarily close the roads to strengthen defense and security measures. But travel and trade in the region are still operating as usual. It’s more accurate to see this as an early warning, so that if tighter security becomes necessary, people will be ready to cooperate right away,” a spokesperson for the CDF-Kanpetlet said.

The Khonum Battalion has also urged residents in the Daa Yindu area to avoid both short trips and long-distance travel, as well as transporting goods by motorbike during the week, unless strictly necessary.

Travel and cargo deliveries will be permitted only in genuine emergency situations, as roads will be closed at Checkpoints 1 and 2 in the Daa Yindu area from August 4 to 10, according to the Khonum Battalion’s statement.

The Daa Yindu area, controlled by the Khonum Battalion, is located near Kyatwee (Kyindwe) Town in Kanpetlet Township, adjacent to the border with Magway Region.

The junta declared states of emergency in 63 resistance-controlled townships across the country, effectively placing them under martial law, including seven of Chin State’s nine townships: Mindat, Kanpetlet, Matupi, Paletwa, Falam, Tonzang, and Thantlang, leaving only Hakha and Tedim exempt.
