ALP begins public consultation in Chin state

A public meeting was held by the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) in Paletwa Town of Southern Chin state in a monastery in Myoh-ma block on July 1 evening. The consultations were regarding opening an ALP liaison office in the town.

“I do not want to mention the name of the meeting’s organizer, but I surely know the meeting was held in the town” said an anonymous source in Paletwa.

Around 20 local people attended the meeting for discussions on opening an ALP liaison office in the town. A local from Paletwa told Khonumthung that there was a good prospect for opening an ALP liaison office.

“It is not correct for the ALP to open a liaison office as they are an armed outfit. And Paletwa is not ALP’s territory,” said Salai Myo Chit, Joint Secretary of the Chin National Party (CNP).

A seminar opposing the setting up of a liaison office of the ALP in Paletwa was held by Khumi tribes in New Delhi, the capital of India on June 26.

Besides, a signature campaign was launched by a Khumi youth group in Paletwa opposing the setting up of a liaison office by the ALP and sent to U Thein Sein, the President of the new government of Burma.

An agreement to set up a liaison office of the ALP was signed at a state level peace talk between officials of the union of Burma and ALP in April first week this year. Khonumthung news
