The Commander of Western Command based in Kuatdaw Myo of Arakan state, Burma visited his command areas on 9 January 2013.
Brigadier Gen. Soe Thein arrived during his trip in Paletwa Town, Chin state where the Light Infantry Battalion No (289) is based on the same day at 4 pm, local standard time, said a local.
“The local security measures are being strictly monitored by the commander. He met troops of the Tura Iang army camp and discussed security measures in the region on 10 January,” said a local.
Paletwa Township of Chin state is under the Western Command of the Burmese Army and there are around 20 army camps located in the village of Paletwa.
Most of security personnel in military camps in Paletwa Township are as arrogant as was the case during the tenure of the previous military government of Burma, said a local.
“A sergeant of the Burmese Army stopped all boats reaching Paletwa from Sinletwa on 9 January. They said that it is due to security reasons during Brigadier Gen Soe Thein’s visit” said a local.
It was learnt that some store roofs belonging to Paletwa’s local people were removed during the commander’s trip and it will rebuilt after the commander leaves.
The army commander left for Paletwa for Am Town of Arakan state after he held a meeting with local Township administrators and departmental officials in Paletwa.
