Burmese refugees residing in New Delhi, the capital of India, will attend the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial lecture tomorrow, which Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s democracy icon, will deliver.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to be to participate in the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial lecture at 6 pm local standard time tomorrow to be held in New Delhi’s Plenary hall, said Ko Kim.
“Daw Suu will arrive today at around 10 am in New Delhi. We are preparing a bus for transportation to reach the Plenary Hall on 14 November. So, we have to proceed at 3:30 pm from Vikaspuri of New Delhi. We will not be allowed to enter the hall if Daw Suu arrives ahead of us,” said Kim.
Besides, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi plans to meet around 800 Burmese refugees in Oxford secondary School in Vikaspuri on 16 November.
Around 700 Chin refugees will be attending the meeting. There will be 130 people each from Hakha, Falam and Teddim communities, 100 persons were selected from Matu Community, 15 from Mara, 10 from Cho and 20 from Khumi communities.
The organizing committee selected 50 persons from Burma, 80 persons from Indo-Burmese community and around 35 Burmese refugees from different places, said Mr. Salong, a member of the committee.
The organizing committee has been collecting names, Delhi’s United Nation High commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR) numbers and residential details through Christian Churches.
“We support democracy in Burma, so I want to meet Daw Aung Suu Kyi the icon of Burma’s democracy. I want to listen to her speech,” said a Chin Christian’s pastor from New Delhi.
It is expected, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will stay an hour for the meeting at Oxford Secondary School. She will spend around 20 minutes in Prospect Burma school which she is supporting.
San Suu Kyi will leave New Delhi on 17 November and will be in Rangoon on 18 November.
