An official of Chin National Organization/ Chin National Defence Force (CNO/CNDF) said that during the five-month operation to capture Falam town, approximately 500 civilian homes and government buildings, including churches, were destroyed due to the military council’s airstrikes and ground battles.
The battle to capture Falam, known as Operation Chin Brotherhood, began on 9 November, 2024, and concluded with the town’s capture on 9 April 2025.
CNO/CNDF spokesperson Salai Timmy stated: “In Falam town, 68 houses were completely destroyed beyond repair after being hit by jet fighters. Another 217 houses sustained roof damage from Y-12 aircraft strikes, but they are still repairable. The rest include government buildings. In addition, 10 churches were damaged. Altogether, including government structures, more than 400 and up to nearly 500 buildings have been damaged.”
Most of the damage to homes was caused by the military council’s aerial bombings, with some houses also set ablaze by incendiary bombs.
Salai Timmy continued, “Most of the destruction was primarily caused by airstrikes. In some cases, the impact of the strikes triggered gas tank explosions, leading to fires. Some homes were also burned down by incendiary bombs. Additionally, damage was caused by artillery shells launched from Y-12 aircraft, 60mm mortars, and occasionally 122mm rockets.”
Salai Timmy said that efforts to rebuild the town are currently underway to enable local residents to return to their homes. He added that they are doing their best to carry out essential tasks, including cleaning the town, and restoring access to clean drinking water and electricity.
During the battle to capture Falam, 89 members of the Chin Brotherhood and allied troops were killed, 30 comrades lost their limbs, and more than 500 were injured.
In its statement, the CNO/CNDF expressed deep regret over their inability to fully protect the homes and properties of the local people during the five-month-long operation to capture Falam town, offering a sincere apology to the people in the name of God.
