Chin state government said that 13 people were confirmed to have contracted H1N1 influenza in Matupi town, southern Chin state on 23 July by laboratory test result from Yangon. “There were some sick persons and having severe respiratory problems in Matupi from last 3 or 4 days. Then, we had sent their phlegm to Yangon National Laboratory center. After that we got the confirmation of H1N1 virus infected result on 23 July. In a letter sent to the Chin State chief minister this month, a group of Chin youth slammed the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army for allegedly perpetrating human rights abuses like forcibly recruiting villagers and using civilians as human shields. A law protecting ethnic media must be drafted, as the burgeoning industry was overlooked by the 2012 media law, according to participants at a recent ethnic media conference. Held in Loikaw, Kayah (Karenni) State from June 26 to 28, the fifth ethnic media conference was led by Burma News International (BNI) and Kayah State-based member organization The Kantarawaddy Times.
