Mizoram has banned the import of pigs from Myanmar, apprehending spread of a viral disease among pigs in the state for two weeks with effect from early this week. Three pigs in this village, situated in the Champhai district bordering Myanmar, were suffering from the disease which caused discoloration of the skin of the pigs, making it look like the pig was suffering from a severe burn. Veterinary doctors said that the disease was caused by a virus called ‘Staphylococcus hyicus’ and the victim pigs were now recuperating after being administered direct treatment. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $10 million grant from the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction to rebuild cyclone-damaged community infrastructure and restore livelihoods in villages in Chin state—the poorest and most remote part of Myanmar, which was highlighted in ADB’s website on 20 April 2016. The project will upgrade rural roads in seven target townships in the north of Chin State, using a “build-back-better” approach to withstand future disasters and cope with climate change. Pu Lian Luai, Chief Minister of Chin state, say that Chikha-Paletwa highway, which is connecting northern Chin state to southern, will be first priority to construct under the new ministry of Chin state government. “There is no highway in Chin state currently, so that our ministry will construct the first highway in the townships between Chikha and Paletwa.
