The network for Chin Community Development (NCCD) has conducted a women’s empowerment training for Chin women in three townships in northern Chin state from 20 November to 8 December 2014. The training has been conducted in Far Tlang village, Zimpi village in Tidim township; Tuimawi village in Tonzang township and Tlangpi village in Thantlang township, in northern Chin state.

The Chin cultural group called Fidi Art & Culture Forum (FACF) participated in Zofest (Zo/Chin cultural festival) in Haflong town, Assam northeast state of India between December 4 and 5. Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) organizes the Zofest each year and participants like the Zo tribes (Zohnahthlak) come from Bangladesh, Mayanmar, and Indian states such as Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Local people of Hakha town are protesting the widening of Bochauk Road in capital Hakha, Chin state. The road laying would have started in the first week of this month. Over 42 local residents put their signatures on a statement and sent it to the Chief Minister of Chin state demanding the authorities consider compensation for losing their lands if the road widening takes place.
A world-class hotel will be inaugurated soon near Kanpalet town, Chin state western Myanmar, the director of Namataung National Park Environment and Wildlife, U Win Naing Taw said. The hotel is being constructed by U Tin Mya Soe, former director of Namataung National Park and the other hotel assistants are U Thun Tin (forester), U Aung Aung (ranger), U Lian Thang (daily worker) at Namatuang National Park.
A shell fired by the Burmese Army soldiers hit a Kachin Independence Army (KIA) training ground near Laiza at mid-day Wednesday killing 22 young men. Of those killed, two were from the Chin National Army (CNA). The incident took place at Kachin Independence Army (KIA) training ground near Laiza on 19 November and 22 young men died on the spot after the Burmese Army mortar struck. The two CNA soldiers were Biak Tin Lian and Ram Nghak, said an official of the Chin National Front.
The Chin state government has banned two more newspapers, the Tedim Post and Zo Lengthe, both published from Tedim Township, Chin state. Tedim Post’s executive chief Htan Van Hlan said that the Tedim language newspapers Tedim Post and Zo Lengthe were not officially registered and so have been stopped from going ahead with their publication. The Chin state government issued an order from Tedim Township Administration Office on 16 October ordering both newspapers to cease publishing immediately.
Chin State authorities have banned the Laizo (Chin) language newspaper, Falam Post from publishing as of 16 October.
A Chin Women’s Organization (CWO) was established on 27 September 2014 at western block in Mindat town with 30 members. The main objectives of the organization are to have self-determination, to promote women’s rights and to empower women on discrimination. They have selected nine members for their Central Working Committee. “We made future plans at the meeting including funding for the organization and the working committee will follow it up. Chin state authorities have stopped publication of The Hakha Post newspaper in Lai (Chin) language, based in Hakha capital town of Chin state on 29 September. The Hakha Post said that its editor Lalawmpuia has been asked to sign not to continue printing of Hakha Post at the District office in Hakha by District Administrator and Township Administrator on 30 September.
Construction of a government school building was not completed in time leading to students’ strength decreasing because of insufficient class rooms in Sawrti village, Rizua sub-township, Matupi township in Chin state. The contract of the school building 60×20 sq-feet has been taken by Pu Lai Ram Thang at an estimated cost of Ks. 140 lakhs. The building was to be completed before June this year, but much work is yet to be done.
