Five of the top leaders of the Chin National Front Nation (CNF) will attend the meeting of the armed group’s team called the Wide Cease Fire Coordination Team (NCCT) on 24 July 2014. The meeting will held in Laiza, headquarters of the KIO. Dr. Za Hlei Thang, Chairman, Pu Zin Cung, General Secretary and other Supreme Council members Pu Thang Lian, Pu Thang Nang Ki and Foreign affairs secretary Salai Tala He will attend.

A new party called the Chin League of Democracy (CLD) has been formed to contest in the ensuing 2015 election in Myanmar. It was registered under the Union Election Commission last month. CLD party will nominate candidates for the 2015 general election not only in Chin state, but also in Sagaing region, Kalay-Kaw, Rakhai state, Makui state and Yangon region, where Chin people are located, Salai Ngai San told Khonumthung News.

The selection board committee of Chin state ministers housing construction rejected all Chin construction companies after opening tenders on 5 June. The construction tenders had been submitted by 13 companies to construct 15 houses of Chin state ministers. The Khumi Youth Association (KYA) has planted 1,000 trees to preserve ground water on 26 June in Paletwa town, southern Chin state. A report said 62 youths of KYA based in Paletwa town have planted 1,000 trees around Sinte waterfall in Paletwa town, Kuan Bauh village and Mon Daung village near Paletwa for conservation of ground water and for greening the villages.
The Tuikin village track group administrator, U Yang Aung has been suspended for misuse of power, said villagers in Tuikin, Paletwa township in Chin state. The local villagers complained on 6 instances of power misuse. They are discrimination, forced labour, violating village rules, stealing public items, and extorting money from villagers. The villagers had complained with evidence to Chin state Chief Minister in 2012 and twice in 2013 through letters.
Mindat district police officer, U Aung Myint has filed a lawsuit against four leaders of Matupi Women’s Organization and Youth Organization for arranging a demonstration for ‘Women and Children’s Protection’ on June 24 in Matupi town. “We were called by the district police officer on June 25, and were at his office from noon to 5pm. He said he had filed a case based on Article 18 as was his duty. But there was no charges framed by other laws, as under the military regime,” Khin Thluai, Chairman of the Women’s Organization, told Khonumthung News.
The Chin National Democratic Party (CNDP) has said that the draft of the ‘Religious Conversion Law’ by Myanmar’s Ministry of Religious Affairs is not acceptable, as it violates an individual’s right to religious freedom in the country. An official statement released on June 21 by the CNDP said the current bill directly violates Article 34 of the 2008 Constitution, which guarantees an individual right to religious freedom. It also violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 18) by the UNO.
