A Federation Chambers of Commerce (FCC) was set up in Hakha’s district office of Chin state, Myanmar led by Pu Ram Mang, Minister of Planning and Economics on 27 May 2013. The FCC was formed following the setting up of an Economic Zone established by Major Aung Win, Deputy Director of the Department of Border trade Ministry of Myanmar government on 1 April 2013. A 26-year old, university student was killed in a motorcycle accident between Pauh town of Magwe division and Mindat Town of Chin state, Myanmar on 10 June. Salai Yaw Bu died on the spot in the crash between a route bus and the motorcycle. The accident occurred when the motorcyclist was headed for Kyopyan village from Pakkoku, Magwe division. The Chin Progressive Party (CPP) and the Chin National Party (CNP) which contested the 2010 Myanmar’s general elections will be merged into one party called the Chin National Progressive Party (CNPP). Salai Ceu Bik Thawng, General Secretary of the CNP told Khonumthung that the documents relating to the merger will be completed by July 2013 for submission to the Election Commission of Myanmar.
The monthly journal of Khonumthung News group was printed last month with permission from the Printing and Publishing Enterprise, Ministry of Information Department, the Union of Myanmar. The first journal of Khonumthung News is published from Kalemyo of Sagaing division, Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar and various other townships of Chin state. One thousand copies of the journal were printed and it has 40 pages. The journal has as its content local, national and international news. Health and technological issues have also been covered in the journal to make people aware.
About 120 families staying as illegal migrants in Rangvamual and Phun Cawng villages were driven out by the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), the largest non-governmental organization in Mizoram. The Aizawl Post newspaper reported yesterday that the migrant workers from Burma were warned to leave on 15 May 2013 by the CYMA authorities after negotiations with local people in the last week of April. The letter of warning mentioned that the foreigners of Rangvamual and Phuncawng village have to leave those villages.
Three youths on two motorcycles were seriously injured in an accident in Matupi, the second capital of Chin state, Burma on 13 May. The accident occurred at the road intersection of Cangbawng block of Matupi at around 11 pm local standard time. Salai Jessi, Lian Ding and Mi Sai were injured seriously, said Salai Rokung, a member of CNF’s liaison office. “The staff member of Matupi’s civil hospital said that Salai Jessi was found to be inebriated while being examined. Forty houses of Chin people were burnt down by Mizoram authorities of Vaphai village, Champhai district of Mizoram state, northeast India on 29 April. The houses in Saikhumphai village were set on fire by a hundred Vaphai villagers in the morning, said a Chin national from Saikhumphai.
The Chin National Front (CNF) conducted a public consultation meeting in Kanpetlet town of southern Chin state between April 25 and 26. The consultation meeting was headed by U Thangmana as Chairman and as a member of the town elder group and Daw Nan Cheery attended as master of ceremonies. Around 300 local people attended the meeting, said a participant.
