Two civilians were killed and four were injured by a Burma army airstrike in the Taik Nel-3 area of Mindat Township in southern Chin State, according to local sources.
The Information Department of the Mindat People’s Administration for Mindat Township reported that the Burma army’s jet fighter dropped bombs on the Taik Nel-3 area around 12:30 p.m. on 15 March.
The airstrike killed a 40-year-old mother and her six-year-old daughter. Those injured were a seven-year-old, a ten-year-old, a school teacher and a 70-year-old man.
“No fighting was reported in the area that day, I don’t know why they intentionally attacked civilian targets. The airstrike killed two people and injured four. Two of the injured people are in critical condition,” Ko Yaw Mang, spokesperson of the People’s Administration for Mindat Township, told Khonumthung news.
Ko Yaw Mang said that the airstrike totally destroyed a Church, a school and a civilian house in the village.
“The jet fighter flew over the area two or three times and then dropped the bombs. They dropped bombs on a school and a Christian Church. The Church and the school were totally destroyed by the airstrike. One civilian house was totally destroyed,”
On 8 March, a Burma army jet fighter attack on the Taik Nel-1 area in Mindat Township injured two people including a child.
Burma army troops based in Mindat town frequently attack civilian villages with artillery shelling.
