A peace committee was formed for stability and to resolve the conflict between the government and ethnic armed groups in the second regular session of the first Phiduangsu Hlawdaw on the first day in Naypyidaw, the capital of Burma yesterday.
Mr. Thein Zaw was appointed Chairman of the National Race Affairs and Internal Peace-making Committee, which was formed in Phithu Hlutdaw and Mr. San Tun was appointed Chairman of its committee in the second regular session of the first Amyotha Hlutdaw.
Mr. Thein Zaw, a former Brigadier General in the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) era was elected for the United Solidarity and Development Party from Myitkyina constituency of Kachin state and Mr. San Tun of the USDP was elected as the Amyotha Hlutdaw representative.
Mr. Ceu Bik Thawng, General Secretary of the Chin National Party told Khonumthung that his party welcomed the National Race Affairs and Internal Peace-making Committee.
“We, five brother parties submitted a motion to form the National Race Affairs and Internal Peace-making Committee in the Hlutdaw session,” said Mr. Ceu Bik Thawng.
The five parties are Chin, Shan, Rakhine, Mon and Karen political parties and they submitted a statement to the Burmese Election Commission and urged forming a peace committee.
Mr. Thawng said that the National Race Affairs and Internal Peace-making Committee should compromise of experts and influential persons not just Hlutdaw representative members.
But the National Race Affairs and Internal Peace-making Committee members have not yet been appointed, said Mr. Ngun Maung, from Chin National Party said.
The session formed the National Race Affairs and Internal Peace-making Committee, Primary Rights of Citizens, Democracy and Human Rights Committee, National Planning, Economic, Monetary and Tax Committee, Education, Health and Culture Committee, Women and Children Affairs Committee, Public Complaints and Appeal Committee, The United Nations, ASEAN, AIPA and International Relations Committee and Farmers and Local and Overseas Workers Affairs Committee.
