Medicines procured from India, which have narcotic content, seized from traders are being sold by Kalemyo police personnel in Sagaing Division, Burma among drug peddlers.
The tablets seized from traders were sold to drug dealers by Thun Ngwe, commander of Kalemyo police post commander and his colleagues.
“The policemen sold the medicines from the godown of the police station. The exercise was repeated 12 times,” said a local in Kalemyo.
Kalemyo police authorities seized around 100 kilograms of Indian medicines from Mai Siang Tin (37), in Falam Town, Chin state, Lal Than Thang (32) and Lawma (22) from Tahan, Kalemyo on 16 July 2012.
This apart, 57,95,000 tablets of Pseudoephedrine were seized in 12 boxes on Tamu and Kalemyo highway on 29 July 2012 by Kalemyo police. It is estimated that the medicines are worth around 8,69,250,000 Kyats.
The seized medicines were stored in a godown of Kalemyo police station and were sold secretly to drug dealers by Thun Ngwe, the commander of Kalemyo police station this month, said a local.
“I estimated that the sold medicines would be worth around 3,000 lakh Kyats. There are numerous such seizures by the local police,” said a local.
Names of medicines like SOLKUF, BROKUF, BROXID, COLD GO, NAM COLD-L, ACTIPIN, ACTIPHATE, ALPRAZOLAM, LORFAST-D and PEPTICA were submitted by Burmese authorities to the Indian government to prevent illegal import to Burma since 2010. Khonumthung news
