January 18th, 2020 – IPYG & IWPG Youth and Women Peace Development Workshop was held in Burundi’s capital city of Bujumbura, hosted by East African Community Youth Ambassador Platform/Burundi Chapter, Together we can/All for one vision.
A total of 13 people from East African Community Youth Ambassador Platform/Burundi Chapter, Eglise de la Fraternité Chrétienne (EFC), Together we can/All for one vision, and Faith in Action Burundi/Community in Action attended the workshop under the theme of “Perceptional Development and Enlightenment about Burundi Women and Youth Ownership Workshop for Peace Agriculture Education.”
The workshop was held to introduce IWPG (International Women’s Peace Group) and its initiatives as well as IPYG’s peace agriculture education to the participants. To foster awareness of peace in the civil society for the development of peace in Burundi, participants at the event dedicated much of their efforts in discussing the actual progress of the Peace Agriculture Education.
In align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) slogan of “not a single person is alienated”, the Peace Agriculture Education, a youth development project of IPYG, was designed to encompass students in all ages. Furthermore, the program enables them to experience a variety of agricultural activities and courses beyond the boundaries of the formal educational institutions.
The education courses aim to empower people to cultivate the values of peace by applying the wisdom gained from the laws of nature and the growth of crops, and to train citizens to advocate for peace from individual to national and global levels. The courses are comprised of 11 lessons, teaching the values of peace and applying the lessons in daily lives.
Mr. Nzosaba Daniel, National coordinator of East African Community Youth Ambassador Platform/Burundi Chapter said, “We were all moved by the idea of peaceful agricultural education. This content felt that peace was the basic factor and that practical activity followed on it. Peace and agriculture education was very interesting for all participants to feel and some of them were farmers, so they asked if they could do these activities together. This event motivated us to continue this activity first in our youth.”
