Bus fares between Pakokku Town, Magwe division of Burma and Chin state is to be reduced by bus owners, the Pakokku Chin Culture and Literature Committee (CCLC) and Chin Social Committee said.
The fare will be reduced from Kyat 7500 to Kyat 5000 for Pakokku to Mindat Town of Chin state. And the fare will be brought down from Kyat 12,000 to Kyat 8,000 for the Pakokku to Matupi town route, said Salai BH. Za Cung, secretary of Pakokku CCLC
“We have discussed the fare reduction with the bus owners for Chin students returning home. The gate authorities have also been supportive in reducing the fare. Fares will be reduced between Chin state to Pakokku,” said Salai Cung.
The CCLC has notified Pakoku’s Chin students that those wanting to return home will report to CLCC authorities before 20 March 2012. Those reporting to the authorities, will be eligible for the new bus fares between 26 to 31 March.
“I am satisfied with this. Most Chin students face financial problems. If fares can be reduced by around Kyat 4000 for Matupi students, it will be good for us,” said a university student from Matupi.
Most Chin students attending Pakokku University spend between Kyat four lakhs to five lakhs a year.
There are 419 Chin students from Matupi, Mindat and Kanpalet Township of southern Chin studying in Pakokku University.
The Natmataung bus route line operates between Pakokku and Mindat town covering a distance of 96 miles and Zalattphyu, ShweSindeih (USDP) and Bungtla buses have been operating from Pakokku to Matupi. Khonumthung news
