The Chinland Defence Force (CDF) attacked the Burma Army (BA) across Chin State in retaliation for the regime’s executions of four political prisoners last week.
According to their own account, CDF soldiers killed four army personnel and wounded one regime soldier in attacks lasting one hour in Kanpetlet Township on 27 July.
Resistance fighters ambushed them at three locations where they were in Kanpetlet, including several government offices and the high school in the town.
In the south, the Hualngoram CDF attacked a BA camp in Rihkawdar in Falam Township on the Indian border twice from 25 to 26 July.
It’s unclear if the junta’s fighters suffered any casualties, but no one from CDF was injured in the fighting.
On 25 July, the junta executed four political prisoners, including prominent leaders Jimmy, a veteran of the 1988 pro-democracy uprising, and Phyo Zayar Thaw, a former National League for Democracy lawmaker.
The two activists had been sentenced to death for allegedly planning attacks on regime targets and had been in prison since their arrest last year.
The other men killed were Hla Myo Aung and Kyaw Min Yu.
The Kanpetlet CDF condemned the executions in a statement and pledged to continue fighting the junta to overthrow the dictatorship. Under the interim National Unity Government, formed in part by former lawmakers, CDF is planning an urban guerrilla campaign supported by NUG’s Ministry of Defence and the Chin Joint Defence Committee.
