Hluttaw representatives of the Chin state government of Burma has started a survey in its constituencies where there is serious food shortage due to changed climatic conditions.
A resolution was passed for starting work at the state level by the fourth State Hluttaw assembly, which was held between 17 and 21 December 2012, as Pu Lal Maung Cung, State Hluttaw representative placed a proposal for a survey in the shortage affected areas in the state.
“86 villages of Than Tlang Township of Chin state is facing food shortage along with other townships in the state. I want to suggest to organizations and groups to ask for help from non-governmental organizations abroad and the government,” said Pu Lal Maung Cung.
At the same time, a meeting regarding the survey of Than Tlang Township was held with village’s administrators by Pu Lal Maung Cung and Pu Rum Thang, an administrator of Than Tlang Township on 1 January.
“120 persons attended the meeting. Some villages have sufficient food for three months as its juhm produce” said Pu Lal Maung Cung.
The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) has found in its survey in 2011 that Chin state remains the poorest state among 14 regions and states in Burma. There has been famine in the state since 2005-2006.
