The Chin resistance ambushed a regime convoy on Tuesday morning, killing at least five soldiers between Chin State and Magwe Region, according to their own accounts. One Chinland Defense Force (CDF) soldier suffered a minor injury.
The CDF has been attacking the 300-strong convoy since July 14, along with the Chin National Army and People’s Defense Force to prevent it from sending troops, weapons, ammunition, and food rations by road to Kyin Dwe in southern Chin State from Magwe Region.
The spokesperson for the Khonu Battalion of Kanpetlet Chinland Defense Force (CDF) expects clashes to escalate between Mahser Twi in Kanpetlet Township and Swel Lae Kyin in Hsaw Township, where the ambush happened.
The regime bombed the groups with jet fighters three times a few hours after the fighting stopped. Sometimes with two jet fighters at once and only one other time, the spokesperson explained.
“A jet fighter flew over us and attacked for seven minutes. Some civilian houses and a BCM Church were damaged by the airstrikes, but no villagers were injured.”
The violence has affected nearly 2,000 civilians who fled to the jungle to seek refuge in the border areas of Chin State and Magwe Region. They desperately need food, medicine, and tarpaulin to protect them from the rain.
The Military Council’s Telegram channel reported that at least five Chin fighters were killed during a clash near Yin Kel in Hsaw Township on 14 July, where some weapons were also seized from the Chin armed groups.
