    Chin kidnapped for eleven lakh kyat ransom in Paletwa

    Four people led by U Hla Thun, pretending to be members of the Arakan People’s Army, kidnapped a villager of Kung Pin, Kara Maih track of Paletwa Township, southern Chin state, Burma on 12 September.

    One of the kidnappers picked up the demanded sum, which was collected from the villagers of Kung Pin by U Zaw Zaw and U Kyaw Oo, heads of the village.

    “Now, the abduction is being investigated jointly by the Burmese Army base in Sinletwa village and the Chin National Army” said Ko Aih Hlah from Paletwa.

    Local people suspect that the group is hiding in Lungpuk village of Lawngtlai district, Mizoram state of northeast India.

    Meanwhile, a proposal to station a Chin National Army camp in Paletwa was submitted by the Chin National Front to the Burmese government during peace negotiation process between the two side’s, but the outcome has not yet been announced by the government.

    “Security is the big issue in these areas, because we are staying in the triangle area surrounded by India, Burma and Bangladesh. So we want to station an army camp here,” said Colonel Than Thun, Second Army Chief of the Chin National Army. Khonumthung news
