On Sunday, the Chin Resistance attacked a Military Council column and its proxy force, Pyawsawhtee People’s Militia Force (PMF), while the 80 soldiers were patrolling in Anouk Gangaw in Magwe Division.
“Local villagers requested us not to shoot heavy weapons into the village if it wasn’t necessary, so we attacked them with light weapons. They suffered some casualties, including an officer. I am sure that at least three Burma army soldiers were killed during the clash,” said Lu Hla, spokesperson for the Yaw People’s Defence Force (PDF). He said at least eight enemy soldiers were wounded, while one of their own suffered a minor injury.
The PDF was supported by the Kalay, Kabaw, Gangaw Chinland Defense Force (CDF), and Hakha CDF.
Due to their lack of weapons and ammunition, the groups had to pull back and were unable to seize any of the Infantry Battalion (IB) 50’s supplies, which was well equipped.
From the town of Gangaw, IB-50 soldiers sprayed the Anouk Gangaw area with shells. A couple in the village suffered minor injuries caused by shrapnel.
Residents of Anouk Gangaw, Shone Shi, and nearby villages who fled the area after the fighting are now hungry as they didn’t have time to bring food with them.
The regime column abducted at least 20 civilians from Lon Hawt to use as human shields on the way to Anouk Gangaw. Once they had passed a suspension bridge, everyone was freed.
