The Chin state government has banned two more newspapers, the Tedim Post and Zo Lengthe, both published from Tedim Township, Chin state.
Tedim Post’s executive chief Htan Van Hlan said that the Tedim language newspapers Tedim Post and Zo Lengthe were not officially registered and so have been stopped from going ahead with their publication.
The Chin state government issued an order from Tedim Township Administration Office on 16 October ordering both newspapers to cease publishing immediately.
Htan Van Hlan said: “The order stated that we could not publish the newspapers because it was not legally registered. So, we have stopped publishing. We are now preparing our application for registration.
The state government has banned four newspapers from publishing for not being registered since the last week of September.
The two other banned newspapers are the Hakha Post and the Falam Post, which were banned on 29 September and the 15 October respectively.
Tedim Post is a two page A4 sized newspaper that published about 2,000 copies a week.
Zo Lengthe is published by a Tedim youth group and publishes about 1,000 newspapers a month.
