    Chin state government holds meeting to prevent human trafficking

    Worried over human trafficking, the Chin state government held a meeting on ways to prevent and protect people from trafficking in Myanmar in the Hakha Town Hall on 12 September.

    At the meeting, the state Chief Minister Pu Hung Ngai and Ministers, officers of the state and township level, leaders of religious groups and block administrators participated making up for 30 attendees.

    The Chief Minister discussed about the danger of human trafficking in Myanmar. According to the international community 26 million people are being trafficked. Of them women are being forced into sex trade, work as house maids and do hard labour.

    The CM said the government had worked out projects to eliminate illegal human trafficking. There is an agreement between Myanmar and neighbouring countries like China and Thailand to prevent human trafficking.

    Chin state human trafficking protection chairman U Myint Aung said that recently Myanmar government has reached an agreement with the US government on human trafficking to be monitored on the existing law and order in Myanmar.

    The Chin state human trafficking protection group has been organized by 12 committee members from state level, 12 members from district and township level and the project period will be from 2012-2016
