A 30-year-old Chin woman died after being beaten by soldiers from the Military Council during an interrogation in Kalay town.

Ma Doh Dik Hui, from the village of Pyi Taw Tha, was stopped at a military checkpoint while riding her motorcycle with a friend in late August. During the interrogation, soldiers beat her head until she was bleeding without any provocation. After the assault, they stole her bike, mobile phone, and wallet before releasing her.

An anonymous source close to her family said that a week later, Ma Doh Dik Hui began experiencing severe headaches and body pain while eating breakfast, eventually losing consciousness. “She didn’t regain consciousness and was sent to a hospital in Kalay,” the woman said. Ma Doh Dik Hui was transferred to the hospital in Mandalay, where she died on the way on Tuesday.

She was cremated in a graveyard in her village during a Christian ceremony.

In August, soldiers also detained a man from Mon Lai Ward in Kalay town at a checkpoint and tortured him, causing bleeding and serious injuries.
