The plans for the public administration of Paletwa Township announced by the United League of Arakan (ULA) – the political wing of the Arakan Army (AA) – are not being done “the right way,” says U Pa Thang the Prime Minister of the Chinland Government.
“This is not the right way for AA to implement its administration in Paletwa Township. It can cause inter-ethnic conflict in the future. It is better for them to not implement public administration in Paletwa. We will resolve this issue through political talks,” U Pa Thang told Khonumthung News.
U Pa Thang said that issues involving the governance of Paletwa Township should be resolved through political dialogue between the ULA/AA, the Chinland Council and the Chinland Government.
On 4 March, an AA spokesperson told media outlets that ULA/AA would launch its public administration in Paletwa Township in cooperation with local representatives after drawing up security and development plans.
In October 2023 during the 1027 military operation, AA troops seized Burma army military camps in Paletwa Township. On 14 January, the AA announced that they had fully captured Paletwa Township from the Burma army.
U Khaing Thukha, spokesperson of ULA/AA, said that the ULA/AA would continue to control Paletwa Township for security reasons and regional stability. He said that Chin resistance groups do not need to worry only about the Paletwa region, and suggested that Chin resistance groups focus on freedom for the whole of Chin State.
