The Chin National Army and its allies, operating under the Chinland Government, have launched assaults on the regime’s Infantry Battalion 269 base in Tonzang, situated in northern Chin State near the Indian border.
Salai Htet Ni, spokesperson for the CNA’s political wing, the Chin National Front and CNA, emphasized that their actions do not target the Zomi Revolution Army – Eastern Command, which has sided with the military regime.
“This is a concerted offensive operation involving the Chin National Army and other Chinland Defense Forces, and we urge the people to lend their support,” he told Khonumthung News.
Following their morning assault on May 16, a junta jet conducted three airstrikes against them, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties on their side.
Tonzang, situated in a township of the same name, shares borders with Mizoram and Manipur in northeastern India.
Many residents near the Tonzang police station evacuated in early May upon hearing news of the impending attacks. The Chin Christian Conventions and local elders issued a plea on May 3, urging the groups to refrain from assaulting the town and township.
Regime airstrikes on May 11 resulted in the destruction of 5 homes, 2 churches, and the displacement of 1,000 individuals from Lungtak and surrounding villages.
The Burma army, Zomi Revolutionary Army – Eastern Command, Zoland People’s Defense Force, Tonzang Chinland Defense Force, Chin National Army, and Tahdo Defense Force are all active in the township.
