    CNF delegation leaves for Rangoon for peace talks

    A delegation of the Chin National Front (CNF) leaves today to talk to the Burmese government delegation for the second round of union level peace talks process between 7 and 8 December in Rangoon the former capital of Burma.

    About 20 CNF leaders led by Pu Zing Cung, Secretary General of CNF delegation will board the Kalemyo to Rangoon Myanmar Airline flight travelling through No. 2, Indo-Burma trade road.

    The delegation comprises Pu Zing Cung, team leader, Pu Thomas Thangnou, second team leader, Pu Pual Sitha, Dr. Sui Khar, spoke person of CNF, Salai Kipp Kho Lian, Dr. Lian Hmung Sakhong, Pu H.C Ral Hnin, Pu Thang Yen, Pu Zo Tum Hmung, Pu Thang Ning Kee, Pu Bernard L. Chhangte, Colonel Solomon, Salai Thla Hei, Pu Hau kang, Pu Thawng Za Lian, Pu Ngai Ja Thang, Colonel Than Tun, Major Sang Lian Thang, Major Kha Pawng and Pu Thet Ni, a media personnel will be attending the peace talks.

    “We will mainly discuss the nationality issue of Chin people, army issues, regional development and social issues. An agreement with the government mentioned in the past peace talks will also be discussed in the second round,” said Dr. Sui Khar.

    Seven Union level peacemaking committee led by U Aung Min, vice Chairman of the committee and Union Minister will be attending the peace talk with CNF.

    Kristine Gould (PACRIM Research Associates, USA), Mr. Yohei Sasakawa (Chairman, Nippon Foundation, Japan)၊ Mr. Yiji Mori (Nippon Foundation, Japan), Ms. Suzuka Yoshida (Nippon Foundation, Japan) Charles Petrie (Myanmar Peace Support Initiative –MPSI ), Mai Chin Chin (Shalom Foundation, Yangon), Salai Bawi Lian Mang (Director, CHRO) will be present at the meeting as observers.

    The second phase of union level peace talk will be held at Myanmar Peace Center Hall of No. 11, Shweli Road, Rangoon. After that public consultation will be conducted with Chin people by CNF’s peace talk delegation in Rangoon, Kale-Kabaw valleys, Hakha, Falam, Teddim and Than Tlang Towns.

    The CNF statement says that the peace talk process is for stable peace in Burma on the basis of the six step plans of the United Nationalities Federal Council.

    The CNF was formed in 1988 for self-determination of the Chin people, to restore democracy, and to establish a Federal Union of Burma. A statement said that the CNF will progress with its aims and objectives through the peace talk process.
