    CNF surveys domestic airport site in Chin state

    The Government of Burma is building a domestic airport in Surbung mountain in Falam Township, Chin state, The site was surveyed by the Chin National Front (CNF)’s delegation with the administrator of Falam Township and local people on 19 December 2012.

    The survey group led by Dr. Za Hlei Thang, Chairman of the supreme council of CNF and the second phase union level peace talk delegation team will to survey the airport site.

    An agreement was signed between CNF and the central government in the second phase union level peace talks in Rangoon, the former capital of Burma recently to build a modern airport in Chin state.

    The official survey team led by U Than Zaw also sent to Surbung mountain by the government to survey the airport site on 26 October 2012.

    “It will be of international standard, ” said the  administrator of Falam.

    The CNF survey team found written an inscription – 5.12.1907 in English on a stone at the airport site. It seems to been placed by a British survey group during Burma’s colonial rule.

    The earlier airport official survey team was sent by the authorities of Burma Socialist Programme Party, State Law and order Restoration Council and State Peace and Development Council of Burma government era.

    “The airport construction planning is on since 1976 by the authority. We heard that a director of a concerned department will be sent to survey and give a detail process of the airport construction” said Pu Thang Kim, an elder Town of Falam.

    The official survey group felt that the airstrip will be constructed up to a length of 8000 feet and will be 200 feet wide. It will be longer than the Kalemyo, Sagain division’s domestic airport. Kalemyo is only 6000 feet long.
