Connectivity Cut For Northern Chin State And Sagaing Region

The regime-controlled MPT and ATOM Myanmar telecommunication networks were suspended last week in the northern townships of Chin State and in Sagaing Region, where violence has been happening with resistance forces fighting to topple the military regime.

“Without phone or internet connection, it impedes our work,” a man affected by the shutdown told Khonumthung News on condition of anonymity.

To communicate something to someone, he must go see them by car or motorbike, which costs money and wastes time. Although Ooredoo is still working, the man said it’s too slow to access the internet.

Connection was also disrupted in the Chin towns of Hakha, Falam and Tedim.

Atom Myanmar, formerly Telenor, is a joint venture between Lebanese M1 Group and Shwe Byain Phu. M1 Group bought the former Norwegian-owned company, reportedly selling a 80 percent stake to the military crony.
