Upper Chindwin Youth Network will stage a demonstration for 24-hour supply of electricity in Kalaymyo, Sagaing region on 27 September. The agitation will be through a peaceful march. Official permit has been taken from Kalaymyo police station on September 15. In the application form, the Youth Network demanded that the main power line in Gangaw township, Makui region has to be connected with Kalaymyo power line for 24 hours of electricity.
The demonstration will start at 4 pm on 27 September from Kalaymyo Sachia Road and wend its way along Pinlong Road–Sanpiah Road–Bochauh Road-Weezayata Road and end in front of the Electric Department office.
Currently, the power supply is from 500 KV and 300 KV transformers, while Zyichuang hydro-electricity also supplies power to Kalaymyo for three hours in a day or 8 days in a month.
However, the central government has provided two 1250 KV and 500 KV transformers and then the power supply will be increased to five hours in a day from the last week of September.
Most of the locals are taking electricity from 57 transformers, which are owned by private suppliers and the power is supplied from 6 pm to 11 pm with one two-foot tube light running up a bill of Ks. 3000 and a TV Ks. 5000 per month.
